Remember the heart-pounding, soul-stirring message of the critically acclaimed movie Gladiator? Remember how
Maximus, the Russell Crowe character, rallied his men around him and led them to victory, even in the face of
almost certain defeat? Remember his "envision the goal" technique for getting through the horrors of battle? Now,
ask yourself. Are you a gladiator?

Maybe, it would be better to state; If you have a strong desire for success in the music business, are you ready to
step up to the plate having a vision of success.
I ‘m asking this question because the majority of people trying to succeed in the music business today simply lack
the skills to be gladiator-style achievers. And some refuse to even acknowledge their shortcomings, while assuming
the reason many people fail in their music endeavor because they lack talent, but they themselves do not.

Fortunately, anyone eager to learn, "the essence of a music business achiever” must think strategically, while
spending some time envisioning the goal and dedicated him or herself to working hard to achieve it.

To think and act like a gladiator in achieving success where others have fail. Such as:

1.        Gladiators have a mission for which they feel real passion for. Call it a purpose, an obsession, a calling:
whatever the terminology is, achievers have a defining mission in their life. They believe it. They feel it! This
mission, above all other traits, separates the wanna-bees from the gonna-bees. In the movie Gladiator, Maximus
lived for the mission of killing the evil usurper Commodus and restoring Rome to the values that made her great.
What is your mission? Define it. Write it down. Creating and communicating a clear picture of your goal will lead to
its achievement. Dare to think great! Maximus helped his fellow gladiators see that they could overthrow their
enemies and survive the horror of the battles they were forced to participate in. In the music business, a successful
artist or entrepreneur creates and challenges anyone who may want to detour him or her from their goal.

2.        Gladiators lead from the front—they don’t dictate from the back. In the movie, both when Maximus was a
general and a gladiator, he fought up front where the firestorm was heaviest. So should a person who desire to
achieve success in the music business. Working "in the trenches" shows that you’re not afraid to get your hands
dirty, it helps you fully understand the issues your "soldiers" are facing, and inspires loyalty with anyone who is
assisting you with your objective such as your street team members, fans and etc...

3.        Gladiators know there is strength in numbers. Where would Maximus have been if he hadn’t trusted his men
to fight with him and cover his back? Likewise, where would you be without someone assisting you? You will not
achieve success in the music industry alone.

4.        Gladiators prepare for battle 24 hours a day. Essentially, a Roman gladiator was a fighting machine. To stay
alive, his mind had to be constantly on the upcoming battle. To succeed in the music business, likewise, you must
be obsessed with training and developing your artist’s skills in good times and bad. If you are an independent
artist, then you must continually develop your skills. People need and should always want to hone their individual
skills and "sharpen their swords." Furthermore, achievers must constantly learn what’s necessary to survive and
unlearn the "old rules." Just because something worked a decade ago, does not mean it will work in today’s
environment—you must evolve with the times.

5.        Gladiators are teachers and mentors. Maximus taught his men the lessons they would need to survive. In
today’s rapidly changing environment, if you are not with a label then it is up to you to train yourself for success. I’m
not necessarily talking about formal classroom training. You can research and read continually to succeed in the
music business.
